Gratitude Season ~By Jane Petrich, FSIM Membership Coordinator If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough. ~ Meister Eckhart Before my mother-in-law died last year, I had family members select a stone, then had them draw a heart on their stone. Before dinner, we went around the room and shared what we were thankful for. It was a touching, special time to hear thankful words at this gathering. The plan was for everyone to take their stone and place it in a special setting in their home or office so that when they looked at their stone it would be a reminder of what they were thankful for. I placed my mother-in-law's stone on the ledge of a kitchen window - near our table - so I can be reminded of her touching words at every meal. This Thanksgiving Day, our family will remember those who have died over this past year, by saying a blessing in their honor. As I was reminded about the stone symbol, I connected to my Feng Shui world and thought of ways in which we can (all) be intentional about being thankful or grateful. Below, are a few tips on how we can work at being intentional about ways to give thanks and (intentionally) express thanks and gratitude. Feng Shui tips to create gratitude: - Find the simple things in life that are meaningful. Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings. Find joy in your work - change ordinary opportunities into blessings. Be thankful for all you have now.
- Create a gratitude journal - Each day or night, make a list of things you are grateful for Recognize events and people that you are thankful for. Or start a gratitude jar. Once a day for a period of time you choose - write down what you are grateful for and put it in the jar. After your chosen time frame, you should be able to notice a (positive) change in your life...and for the better.
- Make a list of all the accomplishments you have completed over the past year. As we go into the "yin" time of year, you can appreciate and be thankful for all you have done this past year.
- In Feng Shui, the Wealth area is also about cultivating gratitude. The color related to this area is purple. Make a list of all the reminders of good fortune or feelings of gratitude that you have experienced this past year. Possibly, your list could include friends, health, family and good fortune. Find a symbol that reminds you of the list you have made. Place the list in the wealth corner... (far left corner from your front door.) That symbol will remind you of all that you are grateful for.
- As a new Feng Shui friend stated, "Commit to Thanksgiving every day. Give thanks every day. 365 days = thanks. Send notes to people, hug them, smile at people and say thank you. It's awesome and enlivening to feel grateful."
Blessings to everyone as we enter a season of Thanksgiving! ___________________ Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order and confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. ~ Melody Beattie |
