Your Help Is Needed...
FSIM Volunteering At Bridging!
Dear FSIM Members, Friends & Guests,
All are Invited!
Fulfilling part of our mission to participate in community outreach projects, we are happy to offer our Feng Shui family an afternoon of giving back by volunteering at Bridging. We promise this will be a day that expands your heart and gives inspiration for doing good deeds. As our teacher, His Holiness Grandmaster Thomas Lin Yun said, "One good deed a day, erases all Karma."
What is Bridging?
Through the effective reuse of donated items, Bridging improves lives by providing quality furniture and household goods to those transitioning out of homelessness and poverty. Bridging serves over 80 households each week who are given a sense of dignity and stability as they rebuild their lives.
Look at our story, meet the clients who benefit from our program and see the place.
When and where is the project? Date: Thursday, August 15, 2019 Time: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm, beginning with a brief program tour Group Size: 10 - 20 volunteers Parking: Parking is available in the lot on the west side of the building. Enter the parking lot by the Fran Heitzman Commons sign. We'll meet in the lobby which is just inside the main entrance door. We suggest leaving valuables tucked away in your vehicle. What will I be doing? - You will be providing general warehouse assistance: loading and unloading trucks, sorting through donated goods, rolling linens and restocking shelves. (A variety of tasks are available, heavy lifting is NOT a requirement and tasks are based on your abilities. There is something to do for everyone with a willingness to help be of service.)
- Specific projects will be determined on the day of your event based on final group size, inventory and warehouse priorities.
- Note: All volunteers must be 14 or older.
What should i wear? - You should dress comfortably and in clothing that can get dusty or dirty. Layers work well since the temperature of the warehouse varies.
- Shoes must be close-toed; no sandals allowed.
Can I bring donations on the day of the event? Yes! Bring a bag, box or an entire carload! View the complete list of items we accept. Additional information about Bridging is available on our website at bridging.org. We're looking forward to a great time volunteering together! |

Special Announcement and Opportunity: We are excited to announce that FSIM's 20th Anniversary Annual Meeting will be held at The Marsh on Thursday, January 9, 2020. Our keynote speaker that evening will be Jaime Meyer of Drumming the Soul Awake. We will be inviting anyone that has their own drum to bring it to the event.
In anticipation of the 20th Anniversary event, FSIM has scheduled a Drum Making workshop, with renowned drum maker, Wayne Manthey. So, if you have ever dreamed of having AND making your own drum, this is your chance! In the workshop, Wayne will walk attendees through the steps to make their own drum. He will provide the wooden frame, deer hide, stain, etc.; you'll want to bring a small rock or other smooth object - one that could fit easily into the palm of your hand - that can go inside the drum handle.
You can choose to make a 13" or 16" drum. The 13" drum will generally have a somewhat higher tone; the 16" drum will generally have a lower tone (but not always). Many people choose the larger drum, but either one will be amazing!
Workshop is:
Pick a Drum: 13" Drum $126.00 16" Drum $162.00
You will want to sign up ASAP, as each workshop is limited to eight participants. Because of the small class size, we are limiting these workshops to FSIM Practitioners and Friend Members only (unless we have additional space prior to the workshops.) If there is significant interest, we may set up additional workshops.

Meet your FSIM Board Members! Spotlight on Peg Ganey
Peg Ganey, Events Coordinator
I have had an interest in home décor almost all of my adult life and was often complimented on my home being so calm and inviting. I knew it was, but I didn't know why. I felt a "pull" towards the practice of Feng Shui after reading "The Western Guide to Feng Shui" by Terah Kathyrn Collins. So in 2010, I went to Encinitas, California and
took my coursework to become a certified Feng Shui Consultant from the Western
School of Feng Shui, the school started by Terah. The Western School of Feng Shui is
based on Form School teachings, the most ancient of Feng Shui styles. After obtaining
my certification that same year, I established my business; "It's Elemental Feng Shui",
incorporating it into my real estate career which I began in 1986 and still practice today.
I have a strong desire to create beauty around me and to help others recognize how our
environment affects us. I embrace the Chinese proverb:
"If there is light in the soul, there is beauty in the person. When there is
beauty in the person, there is harmony in the home. When there is harmony
in the home, there is honor in the nation. When there is honor in the
nation, there is peace in the world."

Summer Solstice Celebration and Bonfire Reflections on FSIM Summer Solstice Bonfire. Debbie Miller welcomed us to her beautiful home and gardens and led us on a Shamans journey. Many brought their drums made at a past FSIM event and others were offered rattles. Debbie highlighted the work of Michael Drake from his book and CD's Shamanism & Drumming: What is shamanism? According to Drake, Shamanism originated among American hunting and gathering societies. Within these tribes, the shaman played many roles: healer, ceremonial actor, mediator, counselor, and keeper of cultural traditions. We drummed to different rhythms and had a wonderful discussion about how this timeless wisdom can support our lives today. Attending the event; Barbara Bobrowitz owner of Energetic Alignments "Specializing in the Soul supporting aspects of Feng Shui and more....." Barbara shared how she practices Shamanism in her life. "There are so many different entry points to drawing the vibration and frequencies of heaven and earth into and through our bodies to access information and, for me, more importantly to tune myself and align myself to the flow of the universe. So whether I'm using ancient rituals, doing feng shui ceremonies and meditations or tools like sweat lodges, drums, dowsing rods, flowers, hallucinogenic plants, stones/rocks or simply deep meditation, tapping (EFT) or learning to tap into my own intuition and inspiration, it's all what I would classify as shamanism." We gathered around the bonfire on the longest day of the year in celebration of summer. Sharing stories of our lives like many Shamans before us and adding sweet sage along with notes to be released in the flames. The sun set late in the evening and the fireflies made an appearance. Thank you for hosting this magical evening, Debbie. |
Fashion-Felines-Feng Shui
Once again we had our Fashion-Felines-Feng Shui Event at Scarborough Fair Shop! This is always an exquisite place for Carole Hyder's Fashion Feng Shui presentation. The reason for the fundraiser is Caring for Cats.
It was a beautiful day for the fashion show. We had standing-room only! We learned about the Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water) and how to work them into how we dress.
A percentage of each purchase was donated to Caring for Cats - a non-profit, no-kill, all volunteer shelter for cats and kittens. We look forward to next year's event: May 9, 2020.

Designing Your Home, Office and Life with Vision Boards! Quarterly Meeting This was no ordinary Vision Board class! We started with our Feng Shui Blessing and then onto Julie Ann. She started out with a couple of thought-provoking questions - Think of a room in your home - does it reflect you? How do you want your home to feel? Then onto a slide show and examples of how your home can manifest change if you decorate with intention. She wrote a guided meditation to get us into the right frame of mind to move onto making our vision boards. When thinking of what you want, your intentions, you need to let things happen, and don't push to make them happen.
She talked about the Five Points of Clarity and reviewed the Five Elements.
And onto making our Vision Boards! We followed all Eight Steps!
We received a Dream Sheet worksheet ahead of class to fill out to help us get a head start on clarity.
Designing Your Home and Life with Vision Boards
In this class, Designing Your Home and Life with Vision Boards, in Julie Ann's "Change Your Space, Change Your Life Series", she guide us to go deeper into the discovery about our home; what it feels and looks like. Even as Feng Shui experts, we sometimes don't take the time to re-evaluate our own spaces. This was a good opportunity to focus on us!
We had a full house, a lot of activity and creative energy! Beautiful Vision Boards were everywhere! It was fun hearing about other's vision boards as well as sharing our own.
